Historic Baker House in Wildwood will be available for holiday tours The historic Baker House in Wildwood is open for holiday tours and back by popular demand are the evening tours introduced last year. The Baker House built in the 1880’s by Senator David Hume Baker has been open for holiday tours for the last six years, each year adopting a different theme for decorations. This year local businesses and citizen groups used the theme A Traditional Christmas as their guide for decorations.
The Baker House will be open on Dec. 9, 10, 16, 17 and 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for day tours. Evening tours will be offered on Dec. 19 and 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. Tours are self-guided. Tickets are $10. Private tours for groups of 10 or more are available. Everyone attending will receive a special gift. Prizes will be raffled and noted cards depicting the Baker House decorated for Christmas will be available for purchase.
Six generations of the Baker family resided in the Baker House before it was donated to the City of Wildwood in 2012. The Baker House is closed to the public each summer while the Wildwood Area Historical Association works on restorations. In addition to the beautifully decorated rooms, regular attendees use the holiday tours to see what restorations have taken place over the summer. “We have some exciting repairs and restoration to show this year,” said Gidget Gibson, executive director of the Baker House. “They have to be seen to be believed.”
After the holidays, special events open to the public will be hosted at the Baker House starting in January. To stay informed about upcoming Baker House events visit them on Facebook at Baker House Project.
