Film Permit Application and Guidelines for Sumter County

Film permits are required throughout Sumter County for commercial film or video that are conducted on public property including rights-of-way, parks, or public buildings.

A film permit is not required in instances where individuals filming only for personal or private use or for employees of print or electronic news media for “breaking news” events. Students and faculty filming exclusively for educational purposes need a film permit as well.

There is no fee to film in the county, but we do require a minimum of three business days to process an application, which must include a certificate of insurance, specific information on locations, dates and times, and any other special arrangements.

Film permit applications require the applicant to provide evidence of liability insurance in the minimum amount of $1,000,000.00 or as otherwise established by the Sumter County Board of County Commissioners. All insurance policies shall name the Sumter County Board of County Commissioners as additional insured.
If you are also planning to film within city boundaries or on city property, please check with the respective municipality, for their film permit requirements.

If you have questions about the film permit application process, please call Sumter County Economic Development at 352-689-4400.
