Paddle Party at Lake Pan’s Marsh Bend
Bring your kayak, canoe or just an appetite for adventure. Sumter County is hosting a “Paddle Party” at Marsh Bend Park, February 16th from 11 am to 5 pm to help celebrate the launch of Paddle Florida’s latest kayaking and canoeing excursion: The Wild, Wonderful Withlacoochee River Run.
Even if you’re not interested in kayaking or canoeing, the afternoon will be chock full of activities to keep the kids happy and the munchies at bay. A variety of live entertainment will be provided. Food and drinks will be made available by an assortment of local vendors, with a portion of the day’s proceeds going to the returning war veterans support group, Operation Home Shores.
Aardvark Kayaking Co. will be providing free kayak rentals (first come, first served), and will have new kayaking equipment on display for those who are interested in a closer look at the latest models.
Paddle Florida participants will be arriving throughout the day in preparation for the Sunday night campout. Bid a bon voyage to the daring paddlers as they head out on their six-day, blue-way journey through the heart of Central Florida. Monday morning’s launch will be a sight to behold as scores of kayakers make way for the coast.
If you think you have what it takes to brave any leg of the six-day trek down-river to the Gulf of Mexico, sign up with the folks at Paddle Florida by visiting their website at www.paddleflorida.org.
