Sumter County is home to 1,367 farms on over 183,246 acres. In the last five years, the number of farms increased by 63%! Just 2% of our population feeds the entire other 98%!
Sumter County also has the fastest growing micropolitan population in the United States (The Villages). These two distinct populations are interdependent, but normally don’t communicate. To introduce these two populations, nine independent organizations cooperated and organized a committee to plan an educational program around “Farm-City Week”.
